Advanced Quantitative Reasoning
Advanced Quantitative Reasoning (AQR) meets the 4th-year math requirement while providing students with practical decision-making skills. Course content focuses on money, investing, and analyzing data for decision-making, and the course is designed for seniors as an alternative to the calculus/trigonometry track. It has been developed using materials created by the Charles A. Dana Center at The University of Texas in Austin.

Anatomy & Physiology (A&B)
In Anatomy and Physiology, students conduct laboratory and field investigations, use scientific methods during investigations, and make informed decisions using critical thinking and scientific problem-solving. Students in Anatomy and Physiology study a variety of topics, including the structure and function of the human body and the interaction of body systems for maintaining homeostasis.

British Literature
GVS English IV is an online version of 4th year English built by Texas educators specifically to meet state graduation requirements (TEKS). The online environment provides flexibility with pacing and scheduling. Students are able to interact with course materials as many times as needed in order to gain mastery of concepts. Instructor feedback is highly interactive and peer-review is built in. All of these factors work together to contribute to student success.

Business English (A&B)
Students recognize, evaluate, and prepare for a rapidly evolving global business environment that requires flexibility and adaptability. Students apply technical skills to address business applications of emerging technologies. Students enhance reading, writing, computing, communication, and reasoning skills and apply them to the business environment. Students are expected to plan, draft, and complete written compositions on a regular basis. Students edit their papers for clarity, engaging language, and the correct use of the conventions and mechanics of written English and produce final, error-free drafts for business reproduction.

Digital & Interactive Media
In the Digital & Interactive Media course, students use web-based technologies to design and create a wide variety of multimedia projects including website design, vector graphics, animation, digital audio, photography, and videography. The course uses free, online tools to create, save, and present complex projects to a worldwide audience. Students finish the course with a complete portfolio of their digital creations.

French 1, French 2, French 3

The purpose of French 1, 2, and 3 is to help students develop the ability to perform tasks of a beginning language learner. General requirements and/or goals for students who successfully complete the course will include: understanding short sentences and phrases when listening and responding orally, producing learned words, phrases, and sentences when speaking and writing, detecting main ideas in familiar material when listening and reading, recognizing the importance of knowing about culture in relation to communication, and recognizing the importance of acquiring accuracy of expression by knowing the components of language.

Medical Terminology
This course will provide students with a basic medical terminology vocabulary, particularly for use in the health care setting. This knowledge will enable them to become successful communicators of medical language.

Pathophysiology
This course provides a study of human disease processes and the effects on homeostasis within the body. Emphasis will be on the interrelationships between body organs and organ systems as deviations from homeostasis occur. Upon completion of the course, students should be able to demonstrate a detailed knowledge of pathophysiology.

Personal Financial Literacy

Understanding and managing personal finances are keys to one’s future financial success.  This one-semester course is based on the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) and presents essential principles and techniques to make informed decisions about real-world financial issues.  Students will learn how choices influence occupational options and future earning potential.  Students will learn to apply decision-making skills to evaluate career choices and personal goals.  The course content is designed to help the student make wise spending, saving, and credit decisions and to make effective use of income to achieve financial success.

Spanish 1, Spanish 2, Spanish 3
Guthrie Virtual School, in partnership with Rosetta Stone, currently offers Spanish 1, 2, and 3, all of which incorporate a variety of resources and activities designed to provide students with a well-rounded and interactive approach to language learning. Each semester, students use Rosetta Stone to help learn Spanish using a dynamic immersion approach. Group discussions and projects are also included in each course to help further understanding and encourage exploration.

World Geography

In World Geography Studies, students examine people, places, and environments at local, regional, national, and international scales from the spatial and ecological perspectives of geography. Students describe the influence of geography on events of the past and present with emphasis on contemporary issues. A significant portion of the course centers around the physical processes that shape patterns in the physical environment; the characteristics of major landforms, climates, and ecosystems and their interrelationships; the political, economic, and social processes that shape cultural patterns of regions; types and patterns of settlement; the distribution and movement of the world population; relationships among people, places, and environments; and the concept of region.

This course examines major world health problems and emerging technologies as solutions to these medical concerns.
